Youth tied knot to bride after pushing his brother at last minute from manamedai

It was a scene straight from a movie when a youth pushed aside his brother, the groom, who was about the get married, and tied the knot to the bride at the wedding ceremony in a temple near Tirupattur on Thursday.
The shocked relatives of the bride and groom assaulted the youth, Vinod, for his irrational action. They were surprised when the youth and the bride revealed that they were in love ever since they saw each other at the betrothal of the girl with Vinod’s elder brother Rajesh six months ago. They kept their relationship secretly till the last minute of the marriage. Vexed over this, Vinod’s brother Rajesh torn his shirt and thrown the Thali and took to his heels from the spot.
Kamaraj, a native of Chellarapatti village near Tirupattur, and his family fixed the marriage of his second son Rajesh with Kaleeshwari of Rajapalayam six months ago. The marriage was scheduled between 7.30 am and 9 am on June 1 in Bala Murugan temple at Thirukalgundram near Chellarapatti village. The bride, her family members and relatives reached Tirupattur a couple of days ago for the ceremony, said the sources. Rajesh and Vinod were working in garments and they were not in good terms.
On the eve of the marriage, the families of bride and groom conducted all the rituals. The bride remained calm, while Vinod was busy with marriage arrangement. They reached the temple early morning on Thursday for the wedding ceremony. Everything went as planned. “As per the rituals, thali (sacred thread) was taken around to get the blessing of the elders came for the wedding. After getting the blessings of the elders, Thali was handed over to the groom. When the priest finished the mantra and asked Rajesh to tie the sacred thread, Vinod pushed him from manamedai (pedestal). Taking everyone by surprise, he took Thali from his pocket that he was carrying discreetly and tied to the bride,” said a source.
Angered over this, the relatives and family members beaten Vinod for his act. They were also surprise to see the girl remained calm without getting agitated. Vinod told the relatives and elders who came to the marriage that he and Kaleeshwari were in love. The girl also acknowledged it. It was love at first sight for them. Since they met at the engagement six months ago, they liked each other and fell in love soon. They were speaking over phone.
The relatives learnt that Vinod and Kaleeshwari decided to wait till the last minute and executed their plan. Infuriated over this, Vinod’s brother torn his shirt and threw the Thali in his hand and ran from the spot, weeping.
After an hour of consolation and talk, the elders blessed Vinod and his lover turned-wife. They left for the girl’s place later on the day./eom/shan/

Shanmughasundaram.j@timesgroup.comVellore: Ilakkiya S, 25, lived up to the dreams of her aunt to become an IAS officer to serve the marginalised and downtrodden.
She stood first among the Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates in the state and 15th across the country. Her overall rank was 298.
"I come from SC community and not everyone from the community gets an opportunity like this. Hence, I want to work for the development of the marginalised, women and children and ensure easy access for the downtrodden to the government welfare schemes," said Ilakkiya, who became the All India topper in Sociology, which was an optional subject.
She was honoured by Vellore collector S A Raman at the Collectorate on Monday.
Ilakkiya's parents passed away when she was studying in Class VII. "My aunt brought me up and she wanted me to become a collector. Since Class XII, my aunty motivated me. Now, I am happy to give life to her vision and dreams," said Ilakkiya. She did BA in English literature from Auxilium College in Vellore and pursued post-graduation in Sociology from Madras School of Social Work in Chennai.
It was her exposure to the socio-economic condition of the marginalised at an early age which helped her to channelise her energy in studies. "My aunt has been running an NGO for women empowerment and child development. I have seen her work for the development of downtrodden. It helped me to understand their needs and demands," she said.
Calling herself as an average student, she gave a word of advice to the aspirants that even average students can be successful, if he or she gets proper guidance, put up hard work and consistency. "I failed in preliminary in the first attempt. But hard work and proper guidance helped me in the second time," she added.

Solar powered smart colony for Irulas
Smart colony for rescued Irular bonded labourers to come up at Rs 6.13 cr in Tiruvannamalai
Tiruvannamalai Soon, Tiruvannamalai district would have a solar-powered smart colony for rescued bonded labourers. It is believed to be the first of its kind in the state.
The Rs 6.13 core project called Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Released Irular Bonded Labourers in Vandavasi funded by the Central Government under Particularly Vulnerable Tribals Group (PVTGs) scheme.
Of the rescued bonded labourers, over 90 percent are from Irulas community. It is unfortunate that they are exploited as bonded labourers in various trades, thereby making it a vicious cycle. The project was designed to help the released Irular bonded labourers are resettled properly to avoid recurrence, said Sub-Collector of Tindivanam T Prabhu Shabkar. He conceived the project during his tenure as Sub-Collector of Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district.
The objective of the project is to provide vibrant and green community housing, sustainable livelihood measures as a community. It is also aimed to promote renewable energy source in tribal welfare measures. “The central government had sanctioned the fund for the project and it would be routed through the state government,” said the official.
The colony would come up in 10 acres of land. The officials are on the process of identifying site in Vandavasi Taluk for the project. “The beneficiaries will be given patta for 2.75 cent of land in the identified site. The houses will be considered at the respective land allocated for the beneficiaries. So far, 70 beneficiaries have been identified. They are all rescued bonded labourers are natives of Vandavai and rescued from various parts of the state,” said the official
The modern colony would have 100 houses with an individual latrine, each unit at Rs 2.65 lakh. It would have 16 components, including gobar gas plant, milk cooperative society.
Under the project, basic amenities such as road, over head tank, street lights, water pipe line and drainage would be constructed. “Each family will be given two milch cows worth Rs 38,000. We will also develop land to raise fodder for the cattle in the colony itself,” the sub-collector further said.
The officials have also taken up a comprehensive assessment survey to ascertain to find out the beneficiaries were possessing vital documents like ration card, electoral ID, Aadhar ID, bank account, ST certificate, education scholarships, OAP, immunization status of children. “We will provide what the documents they did not have,” he further said.
Salient features of the colony:
Anganwadi at Rs 10 lakh, community hall at Rs 40 lakh, gobar gas plant at Rs 25 lakh, children’s park at Rs 20 lakh, solar energy system (grid connected) at Rs 52.50 lakh and cooperative milk Society building at Rs 12 lakh.
