TN Seeks Info about Heir of Ranipet Victims from Bengal

VELLORE:The district administration has sought the details of the legal heir of the nine victims of the tannery tragedy from the State Government of West Bengal to hand over the solatium from the Tamil Nadu Government and the management of Ranipet SIDCO Finished Leathers Effluent Treatment Company.
Of the ten workers, who were killed in the accident, nine hailing from Paschim Medinipur district in West Bengal. They were identified as Abeeb Khan (50), his two sons Ali Ankar (25) and Ali Akbar (23), I Pyaar Khan (25), Sahoor (25), Eshyam (23) and his brother Akram khan (25), N Shahjahan (27) and his brother Kutub Khan (18 ). 
They were working in R K Leather Factory adjacent to the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) of the Ranipet SIDCO Finished Leathers Effluent Treatment Company.  They were buried alive after tonnes of slurry flooded the premises of their company during the early hours of January 31 after the wall of the unauthorised Secure Land Fill of the CETP collapsed.
Senior officials in the district administration said that Vellore Collector R Nanthagopal has sent an official communication to the Government of West Bengal and administration of Paschim Medinipur district asking for details about the legal heir of the nine workers, who were killed in the major accident in SIDCO Industrial Estate in Ranipet on January 31, to hand over the compensation to the affected families.
The letters have been sent four days ago. “We have also spoken to the officials of the district administration of Paschim Medinipur over the phone, requesting to furnish the details at the earliest.  We have also sent a reminder on February 9 and are expecting the information within a week or 10 days,” said a senior revenue official.
“The legal heir of each of the victim will get a compensation of Rs 12.5 lakh,” said an official.
