TNPCB Biggies Held in Ranipet Effluent Case

VELLORE: The CB-CID police on Monday arrested two suspended officials - District Environmental Engineer (DEE) P Kamaraj and Assistant Environmental Engineer (AEE) M Muralidhran - of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), Vellore, in connection the tragic accident at the Common Effluent Treatment Plant of the Ranipet SIDCO Finished Leather Effluent Treatment Company (ETP).
Sources privy to the investigation confirmed the arrest of the two officials in connection with the accident, which claimed the lives of ten workers. TNPCB chairperson K Skandan had placed the two officials under suspension along with the Joint Chief Executive Engineer S Charles Rodriquez on February 5 on charges of dereliction of duty. “The two officials arrested today (Monday) have been produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court and lodged in the Vellore Central Prison for Men under judicial custody,” said an  officer.
