Tmalai Fares Better This year, records
an increase of 9.04 pass percentage

Tiruvannamalai: Tiruvannamalai
district has recorded an
increase of over 9 percent in pass percentage in the Plus Two Public
Examination this year, bettering its performance in the last five years. The
result has enabled the district leapfrog from the bottom ranking to 29th
reank surpassing Vellore.
Of the 24,362 students (Boys - 11,589/ Girls – 12,773) from
193 schools in Cheyyar and Tiruvannamalai Education Districts appeared in the
examination, as many as 20,326 students (Boys - 9,097 / Girls – 11,229) emerged
sucessful.
While boys achieved pass percentage of 78.50, the girl students bettered their
counterparts with pass percentage of 87.91, which is 9.41 percent more than boys.
Thus, taking the total pass percentage to 83.43 as against the last year’s pass
percentage of 74.40 percent. Hence, it
recorded an increase of 9.04 percent. In fact, this has been the better
performance of the district since 2012 (pass percentage 77.58).
Sarika Natesh J (1184/1200) of Jeeva Velu MHS School in
Mathur has emerged as the district topper. Sutharsan S (1174/1200) of Sishya
MHS School secured the district second
rank, while Rajalakhmi K M (1172/1200) and Dhinesh Kumar E V (1172/12000) of
the same school hugged the district third rank.
Among government schools, Harikrishnan K of Government
Higher Secondary School at Mansurabadi emerged as top scorer. He scored 1,144
marks out of 1,200. He was followed by Gokul S of GHS School in Chithathur with
1,141 marks and Vimala M of GHS School of Polur with 1,138 marks.
Chief Education Officer of Tiruvannamalai A Pugazhendi said,
“The result has given as a much needed boost. Next year, we are confident to be
the top in the ten districts’ list in the State.”
Attributing the improved show to the sustained effort of the
students-teachers in achieving their goal. “We have prepared materials to help
average and below average students to score good marks. We also frequently hold
a review meeting with teachers and motivated them to achieve good performance.
It paid off,” said the CEO.
Tagged as an educationally backward district, Tirvannamalai had
been stranded at the bottom of the district-wise rank list in the state. This
year’s performance in the public examination is the best record in the last
five years. The previous best performance was 77.58 percent in 2012. The following year, the
pass percentage plunged to 69.91 percent.
As many as
15 schools – 10 matriculation higher secondary schools, two aided and self
finance schools and a social welfare department school – have achieved cent
result in the examination this year. Students appeared in Home Science (123
students), microbiology (57) and Geopgraphy (107) have emerged as victorious
candidate, recording the cent percent result in the subjects. The pass percent
in Zoology subject is the lowest among all the subjects. Of the total 4,710
students appeared, only 4,078 students passed the exam with pass percent of
86.58 in the subject.
